Mike Poe, Certified Journeyman Farrier, Returns to Maryland

Mike Poe, CJF, is returning to Maryland this spring to provide quality, specialized services for a limited number of horses in the Washington, DC area.

“The performance horses and owners I have met in Maryland are a pleasure to deal with,” says Poe. “I am looking forward to working with them again and rubbing shoulders with some of the finest colleagues the industry has to offer.”

Poe is an American Farrier’s Association (AFA) Certified Journeyman Farrier (CJF), which is the highest level of certification offered by the national farriers’ organization.

Only 20 percent of the approximately 2700 AFA members are CJF certified.

He is also the owner of Alpha Farrier Services. (www.alphafarrier.com)

Since graduating from the Eastern School of Farrier Science and studying in the Animal Sciences program at Virginia Tech, Poe has shod horses in seven states on both the East and West coasts.

Poe also works with equestrian programs like the one at the University of Maryland, College Park, where he has been the regular farrier for the university horses for almost three years.

He has been a guest lecturer in several of the university’s Equine Studies classes.
